Description
Description
A staff favourite of the Teakle wine collection, this Shriaz is smooth and easy drinking (Shhh....we like it better than the 2018 vintage shiraz)
ATTRIBUTES
The wine is has lovely aromas of mulberry and spice, which flows through to the palate. It has soft and juicy tannins which gives length and persistence. This wine can be enjoyed as a young, easy drinking wine, or short term cellaring for added complexity.
WINEMAKING
The 2019 Vintage was low yielding due to lower than average rainfall in the reopening period. The quality of the fruit we yielded however was very high. The fruit was handpicked mid March 2019 and transported to Clare via refrigerated trucks to O’Leary Walker Wines in the Clare Valley. The fruit was then crushed and destemmed into open 2 tonne fermenters. The fermenting grapes and juice (must) was hand plunged twice daily, with daily pump-overs to integrate the colour and tannin into the ferment. Post alcoholic fermentation the must was basket pressed into 25% new French oak and remainder 2nd-4th use French oak for malolactic fermentation and maturation. The wine was in barrel for 24 months, before being lightly filtered and bottled in November 2021.
VINEYARDS
Situated on the Teakle property in Port Lincoln, 2 kilometres from the foreshore, with 150 meters elevation. The soils are a rich combination of sandy loam topsoil overlying a friable red-brown clay loam subsoil. The moderately warm summer temperatures and maritime breeze allow perfect ripening conditions in the vineyard. The long sunshine hour days encourage even ripening of the grapes, while the gentle breeze helps cool the bunches, retaining the beautiful natural acidity.
